Rand-Whitney Recycling, Montville, has partnered with the organization More Than Words to purchase their unusable books for recycling. According to the Mission Statement: “More Than Words is a nonprofit social enterprise that empowers youth who are in the foster care system, court involved, homeless, or out of school to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a business.”
The organization believes that when youth are challenged, and given responsibilities and support in a business setting, they will succeed in their future plans. Along with employment, the youth are trained in life skills and receive assistance to pursue higher education.
The books are donated from individuals, collection boxes, libraries, and other institutions and are sold at two retail bookstore locations in Boston and Waltham, and online at Amazon, eBay, and Alibris. Unusable books are recycled into paperboard, such as tissue boxes or paper towel rolls. For more information or to schedule a book donation pick-up, call: 617-674-5555, or email: Bookdrives@mtwyouth.org.
